Home care in Calgary

Home care in Calgary, from a locally owned Alberta team

We provide home care in all quadrants of Calgary and the surrounding area, on approved home care hours or as private care. Call 587.443.1888. Our phones are answered 24/7.

Phones answered 24/7. A coordinator calls back within the hour, day or night.

Local coverage

We serve families in NW, NE, SW and SE Calgary, and in the surrounding area.

One coordinator gets to know your mom or dad, the caregiver and your family, and confirms every visit. If the caregiver is away, a backup works from the same care plan, so nobody starts from scratch.

Across our team, caregivers speak many languages, including Tagalog, Punjabi, Hindi, Spanish, Arabic, French and more. Tell us what your family speaks when you call, and we will look for a caregiver who speaks it.

Not sure whether your address is in the area? Call 587.443.1888 to check. If you live outside it, we may still be able to help.

Care we provide in Calgary

Six kinds of support, from a few hours a week to full 24/7 care at home. On CDHCI, we provide the care in the approved care plan. Anything else can be private care.

Personal care

Help with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting and getting around the home, given with patience and dignity.

Medication reminders

Friendly prompts to help your parent remember medication times and daily routines. This is reminder support, not nursing care.

Dementia & memory care

Calm, familiar routines, gentle redirection and validation that help a parent living with dementia feel settled at home.

Companion care

Friendly visits, light housekeeping, meal prep, errands and outings, so the day has company and the house stays on track.

Respite & overnight care

A few hours, a weekend or overnight, so family caregivers can rest. We also provide overnight presence, awake-overnight care and full 24/7 care in Calgary.

Long-term care

Ongoing care in your parent's own home for chronic conditions and extended needs. This is long-term home care, not a care facility.

How to start care in Calgary

1

Call us first

Call 587.443.1888 any time, day or night, and we will explain your options. Prefer to write? Use the request form and a coordinator calls you back within the hour.

2

If you have approved home care hours, or want to ask for them

With Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI), a home care case manager approves the hours and your family chooses who provides them. Already approved? Call us, then tell the case manager you have chosen #1 Right Care. Not assessed yet? Call us first at 587.443.1888 and we explain what to ask. Then you or your parent call the Calgary home care intake line at 403-943-1920 (toll-free 1-888-943-1920), or the case manager if your parent already has one. Families can ask for an assessment themselves, and no doctor's referral is needed. The case manager decides the hours and whether client-directed care suits your parent. We are a registered CDHCI provider, listed on the Alberta Blue Cross provider map as "# 1 Right Care".

3

Or, if you want private care

Private care is available on its own, including while you wait for an assessment, or on top of approved CDHCI hours. Tell us what you need and how often, and we give you a written quote before any care starts.

4

We match your caregiver

We match a caregiver to your parent by personality, language, schedule and need. If the match isn't right, we re-match at no extra cost.

Paying for care

On CDHCI, we invoice Alberta Blue Cross directly for the approved hours we deliver. You are not invoiced for those hours, and we give you a copy of every claim statement. Your family directs the care, and we take care of the billing.

On CDHCI, care follows the approved care plan, and each type of care has its own approved hours. Homemaking, like light housekeeping or laundry, counts only if it is in the plan and goes along with personal care or respite, never on its own. Your parent needs to be home for each visit, and we record the time for each type of care, as the program requires. Care outside the plan can be arranged as private care, with a written quote.

Private care is paid by you. We give you a written quote before any care starts, and there is no extra charge for evenings, weekends or holidays. We invoice you for private hours.

You can combine the two, with private hours on top of approved CDHCI hours.

Every visit is at least 2 hours, whether it is CDHCI or private. The program does not add hours to meet a visit minimum. If your parent's approved care plan has shorter visits, we work out the schedule with you and put any cost in writing before care starts. For more on visits, scheduling and costs, see home care costs.

Why Calgary families choose us

  • A real person, any time. Our phones are answered 24/7, and a coordinator calls you back within the hour, day or night.
  • One coordinator who knows your family. The same coordinator knows your parent, the caregiver and your family. Each morning the schedule is checked for problems, like a visit with no caregiver, so the office can fix them before the visit.
  • Carefully chosen caregivers. Every caregiver is interviewed in person, reference-checked, criminal-record-checked and trained before joining our team.
  • Locally owned and run. We are owned and run here in Alberta, by people you can reach.

Common questions

Do you cover my part of Calgary?
Yes. We serve all four quadrants of Calgary and the surrounding area. Not sure whether your address counts? Call 587.443.1888 and ask. If you live outside the area, we may still be able to help.
How do we get a home care assessment in Calgary?
Call us first at 587.443.1888 and we will explain what to ask. Then you or your parent call the Calgary home care intake line at 403-943-1920 (toll-free 1-888-943-1920), or the case manager if your parent already has one. Families can ask for an assessment themselves, and no doctor's referral is needed. The case manager decides how many hours are approved. Home care has moved from Alberta Health Services (AHS) to Assisted Living Alberta. Letters and the Alberta Blue Cross website may still say AHS. It is the same case manager and the same program.
Can care start while we wait for an assessment?
Yes, as private care. Private care is available on its own, and we give you a written quote before any care starts. Once the case manager approves hours and agrees client-directed care suits your parent, you can choose us for those hours. Private hours can continue on top if you still need them.
Can we switch to #1 Right Care from another provider?
If you are already on CDHCI, yes. Program rules let you switch providers at any time. You tell the case manager you have chosen #1 Right Care, and we explain beforehand what to ask. If the case manager arranges your parent's care today, ask whether client-directed care suits your parent. That decision is the case manager's. If you pay another agency privately, call us for a written quote.
