Care we provide in Lethbridge
Six kinds of care, all given at home in Lethbridge.
Personal care
Patient, respectful help with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting and moving around safely at home.
Medication reminders
Reminders that keep daily medications on track. This is reminding only, not administering medication and not nursing care.
Dementia and memory care
Caregivers trained to keep calm, familiar routines and to gently redirect a parent living with memory loss.
Companion care
Friendly visits, light housekeeping, meal prep, errands and outings, so your mom or dad has company and a hand around the house.
Respite and overnight care
A few hours, a weekend or overnight, up to full 24/7 care, so family caregivers in Lethbridge can rest.
Long-term care at home
Ongoing care in your parent's own home for chronic conditions and long-lasting needs, not in a care facility.
How to start care in Lethbridge
There are two ways to have care with us: hours approved by your parent's home care case manager, or private pay. Either way, start by calling us.
Call us, any time
Call 587.443.1888. Our phones are answered 24/7. Tell us what's happening with your mom or dad. We'll explain both options and, if you need it, what to ask your parent's case manager. Prefer to write? Use the request form, and a coordinator calls you back within the hour, day or night.
If you want client-directed home care
Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI) is an Alberta home care option where your family chooses the provider. Alberta Blue Cross pays for the approved hours. A home care case manager with Assisted Living Alberta (formerly AHS home care) assesses your parent. The case manager approves the hours and decides whether client-directed care suits them. Before you talk to the case manager, we explain what to ask. Already have a case manager? Call them and ask about client-directed care. If not, call the Lethbridge area home care intake line at 403-388-6380 or toll-free 1-866-388-6380 to ask for an assessment. You can refer your parent yourself. Once client-directed care is approved, tell the case manager you've chosen #1 Right Care.
Or, if you're paying privately
Private care works on its own or on top of approved CDHCI hours. Tell us what you need, and we give you a written quote before any care starts.
Then we match a caregiver and begin
Once your CDHCI approval is in place, or you have accepted your written quote, we match a caregiver by personality, language, schedule and need. Your coordinator confirms every visit and keeps the care plan on file, so a backup caregiver works from the same plan.
Paying for care in Lethbridge
On CDHCI, we take care of the billing. We invoice Alberta Blue Cross directly for the approved hours we deliver. You are not invoiced for those hours, and we give you a copy of every claim statement. We are a registered CDHCI provider, listed on the Alberta Blue Cross provider map as "# 1 Right Care".
Private pay is available. We give you a written quote before any care starts, and there is no extra charge for evenings, weekends or holidays. For private hours, we invoice you.
You can combine the two: approved CDHCI hours for the care in your parent's plan, and private hours for anything more.
On CDHCI, care follows your parent's approved care plan. Each type of care has its own approved hours. Homemaking counts only if it is in the plan, and only alongside personal care or respite. Your parent needs to be home for the visit, and we record the time for each type of care, as the program requires.
CDHCI is for people living in their own home. It generally isn't available in a lodge, supportive living, assisted living or a group home. Your parent, or someone they choose such as a family member, needs to be able to direct their care. For the full picture, read our guide to client-directed home care.
Every visit is at least 2 hours, CDHCI or private. If your parent's care plan has shorter visits, we work out the schedule with you and put any cost in writing before care starts. For more on visits and scheduling, see home care costs.
Why families choose #1 Right Care
- Someone answers, any time. Our phones are answered 24/7, and a coordinator calls you back within the hour, day or night.
- Screened, trained caregivers. Every caregiver is interviewed in person, reference-checked, criminal-record-checked and trained before joining us.
- Matched to your family. If the first match isn't right, tell us, and we re-match at no extra cost. Our caregivers speak many languages; tell us yours.
- One coordinator who knows you. The same coordinator knows your parent, the caregiver and your family, and confirms every visit.
- Problems caught before the visit. Every morning we check the coming schedule for problems, such as a visit with no caregiver assigned, and fix them before the visit, not after.
