Home care costs, quotes and scheduling
On Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI), your home care case manager approves your hours and you choose who provides them. Choose #1 Right Care, and we invoice Alberta Blue Cross, not you, for the approved hours we deliver. Anything you pay for yourself is quoted in writing before care starts.
Phones answered 24/7. A coordinator calls back within the hour, day or night.
Two ways to pay, and you can combine them
Which one fits depends on whether a home care case manager has approved hours for you.
Approved CDHCI hours
Your home care case manager assesses your needs and approves your hours. On client-directed care, you choose the provider. Choose #1 Right Care and we invoice Alberta Blue Cross for the approved hours we deliver. You are not invoiced for them. Not assessed yet? You can refer yourself for an assessment, and no doctor's referral is needed.
Private care
You arrange care with us and pay for it yourself. You get a written quote before any care starts, with no extra charge for evenings, weekends or holidays.
Both together
Private hours can sit on top of your approved CDHCI hours, for example when you want more time than your case manager approved. Alberta Blue Cross is invoiced for the approved hours. You are invoiced only for the private hours, as quoted in writing.
Visit length
Every visit is at least 2 hours. That applies to approved CDHCI hours and to private care.
On CDHCI, the program does not add time to reach a visit minimum. Your care plan may have shorter visits, for example a 1-hour morning visit. If so, we work out a schedule with you and put any cost in writing before care starts.
Not sure how this fits your care plan? Call 587.443.1888 before you choose a provider, and we'll go over the plan with you.
How quotes work
We don't publish a rate. Instead, you get a written quote for any care you would pay for yourself.
Call or send the request form
Call 587.443.1888 any time, or send the request form. Tell us who the care is for and what is going on.
We talk through needs and schedule
A coordinator talks with you about the help needed, the days and times that suit your family, and whether you have approved CDHCI hours.
You get a written quote
Before any care starts, you get a written quote for any hours you would pay for yourself. There is no extra charge for evenings, weekends or holidays.
Nothing starts until you agree
Read it, ask questions and take your time. Asking for a quote does not commit you to anything. Care starts only once you have agreed. For approved CDHCI hours, your CDHCI approval also needs to be in place.
What you might pay
Alberta Blue Cross pays for the approved CDHCI hours we deliver, so you are not invoiced for them. You may pay for the following, and each is quoted in writing before care starts.
- Private hours. Any care you arrange with us privately, on its own or on top of approved hours.
- Hours beyond your approval. Each type of care has its own approved hours. If you want more time than your case manager approved, the extra hours are private.
- Care that is not in your approved plan. For example, a visit that is only housekeeping, company or errands, or an outing. On CDHCI, homemaking like cleaning or laundry is part of a visit only if it is in your plan. It goes along with personal care or respite, never on its own, and your mom or dad must be home for the visit.
- Time added to a shorter visit. If your care plan has visits shorter than 2 hours, we work out the schedule with you. Any cost is put in writing before care starts.
We take care of the billing
On CDHCI, we invoice Alberta Blue Cross directly for the approved hours we deliver. Alberta Blue Cross pays for them on the province's behalf. You are not invoiced for those hours.
You get a copy of every claim statement, so you can see what was invoiced for your care.
We record the time for each type of care, as the program requires. That record is what the Alberta Blue Cross invoice is built from.
Private hours are invoiced to you, as set out in your written quote.

How we keep your schedule running
Behind every visit is our own care-coordination system. Here is what that means for your family.
One coordinator who knows you
A coordinator confirms every visit. The same coordinator knows your mom, her caregiver and your family.
The whole week in one place
Every visit is scheduled and tracked in our system. Your coordinator sees the whole week, every client and every caregiver, in one place.
Problems caught before the visit
Every morning the system checks the upcoming schedule and flags problems, like a visit with no caregiver assigned. The office fixes them before the visit, not after.
A briefing before every visit
Before each visit, your mom's caregiver gets a briefing on their phone: the address, the care-plan tasks, her preferences and emergency contacts.
A note after every visit
After each visit, the caregiver files a short note on how your mom seemed and anything they noticed. Coordinators review these notes and follow up on anything concerning.
Nothing lost between caregivers
Coordinators send handoff notes to caregivers through the system, and caregivers confirm they have read them, so important details don't depend on memory or text messages.
A backup who works from the same plan
Your mom's care plan and preferences are kept on file. If a backup caregiver steps in, they work from the same plan instead of starting from scratch.
A smooth restart after hospital
If your mom goes into hospital, visits are paused. The office sets itself a reminder to check in with you, so care can restart smoothly when she comes home. On CDHCI, her case manager confirms her CDHCI again before visits restart.
