Care we provide in Red Deer

Six kinds of care, planned around your family and your week. On CDHCI, your caregiver gives the care in your approved care plan, and you need to be home for the visit. Homemaking counts only if it is in your plan, alongside personal care or respite. For care outside your plan, we give you a written quote for private hours before any care starts.

Personal care

Help with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting and moving around the home, given with patience and dignity.

Medication reminders

Prompts and reminders that help keep daily medications on track, without giving medication or providing nursing care.

Dementia and memory care

Calm, familiar routines for someone living with dementia or memory loss, with gentle redirection and reassurance when they are confused or upset.

Companion care

Friendly visits, light housekeeping, meal prep, errands and outings that make the week easier.

Respite and overnight care

A break for family caregivers for a few hours, a weekend or overnight, with awake-overnight and full 24/7 care available.

Long-term home care

Ongoing care at home for chronic conditions and extended needs, not in a care facility.

How to start care in Red Deer

The easiest start is one call to us. From there, there are two ways to arrange care, and you can use both.

1

Call us first, any time

Call 587.443.1888. Our phones are answered 24/7, and a coordinator calls you back within the hour, day or night. Tell us what is going on and we will explain your options. You can also use the request form.

2

Using approved home care hours

Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI) lets you choose who provides the home care hours your case manager approves. Alberta Blue Cross pays for those hours. It is for people living in their own home. You, or someone you choose such as a family member, direct the care. No case manager yet? Call us first at 587.443.1888 and we explain what to ask. Then you or your family call the Red Deer and central Alberta intake line at 1-855-371-4122. You can refer yourself, with no doctor’s referral. Already have a case manager? Ask them about CDHCI. Your case manager decides your hours and whether CDHCI suits you. Once you are on CDHCI, you can choose #1 Right Care. We are a registered CDHCI provider, listed on the Alberta Blue Cross provider map as “# 1 Right Care”. Read our guide to client-directed home care.

3

Paying privately, or adding hours

Not on CDHCI, or want more than your approved hours? You can pay privately. We talk through what you need and give you a written quote before any care starts. There is no extra charge for evenings, weekends or holidays.

4

Meet your caregiver

We match your caregiver by personality, language, schedule and need. A coordinator confirms every visit. If the match isn’t right, tell us and we re-match at no extra cost.

Paying for care

On CDHCI, we take care of the billing. We invoice Alberta Blue Cross directly for the approved hours we deliver, and Alberta Blue Cross pays. You are not invoiced for those hours, and we give you a copy of every claim statement. Approved hours cover only the care in your approved care plan, which your case manager sets. Care outside that plan can be added as private hours.

Private pay works on its own or on top of approved CDHCI hours, so you can combine the two. You get a written quote before any care starts, with no extra charge for evenings, weekends or holidays. For private hours, we invoice you.

Every visit is at least 2 hours, on CDHCI and private pay alike. The program does not add hours to meet a visit minimum. If your care plan has shorter visits, call us. We work out the schedule with you and put any cost in writing before care starts. Our home care costs page explains visits, scheduling and costs in more detail.

Why families choose #1 Right Care

  • One coordinator who knows you. The same coordinator knows your mom or dad, their caregiver and you. They see the whole week in one place and confirm every visit.
  • Caregivers checked before they start. Every caregiver is interviewed in person, reference-checked, criminal-record-checked and trained before joining our team.
  • Problems fixed before the visit. Every morning we check the coming schedule for problems, like a visit with no caregiver assigned, and fix them before the visit. If your regular caregiver is away, a backup works from the same care plan and your preferences on file.
  • Care that picks up after a hospital stay. If your mom or dad goes into hospital, we pause visits and set a reminder to check in with you. That way care can restart smoothly when they come home. On CDHCI, your case manager confirms CDHCI again before visits restart.

Common questions

What does home care cost in Red Deer?
On CDHCI, Alberta Blue Cross pays for your approved hours, and you are not invoiced for them. For private care, we give you a written quote before any care starts. There is no extra charge for evenings, weekends or holidays. Every visit is at least 2 hours. Read more on our home care costs page.
Who do I call in Red Deer to ask for a home care assessment?
Call us first at 587.443.1888, any time, and we will explain what to ask. Then you or your family make the call. If you already have a home care case manager, call them. If not, call the Red Deer and central Alberta home care intake line at 1-855-371-4122. You can refer yourself, and you don’t need a doctor’s referral. Your case manager does the assessment and decides your hours.
My letter says AHS. Is that the same program?
Yes. Home care moved from Alberta Health Services (AHS) to Assisted Living Alberta. Letters and the Alberta Blue Cross website may still say AHS. It is the same case manager and the same program.
Can you provide overnight or 24/7 care in Red Deer?
Yes. We offer someone in the home overnight, awake-overnight care and full 24/7 care in all four of our service areas, including Red Deer. On CDHCI, we deliver the hours your case manager approves. Can we switch to #1 Right Care from another provider?
If you are on CDHCI, yes. You can switch provider at any time. You or your family tell your case manager you have chosen #1 Right Care, and we explain beforehand what to ask. If your case manager arranges your care today, you can ask them whether CDHCI suits you. That decision is theirs. You can also start private care with us, with a written quote first.
